The Hamilton Unit is a purpose built facility, designed to cater for the needs of students with a wide range of physical and intellectual disabilities. There are four classrooms, all with interactive whiteboards, where students access digital technologies to enhance their learning. There is a secure recreation area for students to access as an outdoor learning environment and at break times.

Our Focus

A major focus of learning in the Hamilton Unit is teaching our students to become as independent as they can be. We do this by providing multiple and varied opportunities for your child to develop their communication and social skills. To prepare our students for life after school, they have the opportunity to undertake a range of work experience placements during their final two years of school. By doing this, we maximise their post-school pathways. These usually include supported employment and Day Options programs. Additionally, students may be involved in open employment opportunities. We have great relationships with a network of employment services and providers that enable us to identify and secure the very best placement for your child. We are proud of our record of success in this area.

A Personalised Approach

Our students have very individualised needs. We get to know them well and build a personalised program tailor made for them. We use the Negotiated Education Plan, Australian Curriculum and Modified SACE to offer a balanced curriculum, with an appropriate focus on skill development and academic achievement for each individual student. We build on the strengths of your child and strive to develop capacity in each and every student. That’s our commitment to your child and to you.

Each year we welcome new students to Hamilton Unit. Students with a verified disability are allocated placement in the Unit by a panel of specialist regional staff based on their needs.
