Respect. Excellence. Integrity.

STEM

Hamilton Secondary College is a STEM-specialist centre of learning. Our highly skilled staff use the context of Space to deliver an engaging and rigorous trans-disciplinary STEM curriculum, in addition to the discrete subjects of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Our graduates will be forward thinkers, innovators, and leaders in the Space and STEM sectors.

We strive to excite our students and instill a love of STEM learning. The latest educational research is applied to deliver cutting-edge teaching and learning and develop effective programs for students. To maintain the highest level of excellence in STEM content and pedagogy, Hamilton Secondary College has established dynamic partnerships with universities, industry, and government, to ensure our programs reflect the latest developments within the Space Industry and our students know about and are at the forefront of the career opportunities that exist for them.

STEM learning is delivered in our $2.5M Innovation Centre. This exciting area consists of five open-plan zones created to inspire student engagement through the delivery of our innovative learning experiences.

Ideation Zone

Students brainstorm ideas using large write on surfaces, as they collaborate to interrogate problems and design solutions.

Realisation Zone

Students access the materials and equipment they need to create their designed solutions, using everything from 3D printers and laser cutters to soldering irons, circuit boards and robotics.

Testing Zone

Students rigorously test and further improve their prototype solutions, which may involve subjecting their prototypes to testing in our wind tunnel.

Laboratory Zone

Students examine the science behind the problems they are investigating and create experiments to test their hypotheses before prototyping their solutions.

Technology Zone

Students develop their coding and programming skills and investigate the power of information and communication technology to positively impact the lives of others. The facility also includes a custom-designed gravity drop tower that allows students to experiment with the effects of micro-gravity.

With a comprehensive STEM program in place, Hamilton students have many opportunities to develop their passion, interest, knowledge and skills throughout the Middle School and Senior School years. Our strength in STEM means that each year approximately 70% of our graduates go on to further study in STEM-related fields.
