Lights, waves, action: students discover disc technology
Ever wonder how CDs and DVDs work? Mr. Winzil’s Year 12 Physics class has been investigating the properties and applications of light and waves through theoretical and practical experiences. Last week, they used their theory to uncover the properties of CDs and DVDs through the processes of diffraction. By designing experiments, they discovered how data is stored through the distances of thin bands within the discs, while also comparing the amount of data that can be stored through the different versions of this technology.
