Reconciliation Week

To continue with Reconciliation Week our ASETO Phoebe ran a lunchtime workshop on Monday to teaching the art of weaving.

Weaving is an ancient cultural practice spanning over 65,000 years using native flora like pandanus, reeds and grasses. First Nations peoples create essential everyday objects such as bags, baskets and mats while sharing cultural stories.

It was great to see students come along and have a yarn.

It was amazing to see all the students and staff come together to place their hand on the ‘All In’ banner on Friday. This simple gesture symbolises Hamilton coming together and putting their hand in to say they are committed to reconciliation throughout Australia.

On Wednesday our Year 7- 10 First Nations students attended ‘Reconciliation in the West’. Throughout the day they were able to experience different cultural activities, yarn with different mobs and connect with some amazing services. The day was spent connecting to culture while having a huge smile on their faces!
