Space School Update: September 2018

At the beginning of August, Hamilton Space School hosted 12 students from the United Arab Emirates as part of our collaboration with the UAE Space Agency. The students completed a six-day program at Space School, carrying out a range of practical, immersive activities investigating the principles of astronomy, robotics, rocketry, human bioscience and interplanetary space exploration – including a simulated mission to Mars.

The collaboration with the UAE Space Agency aims to generate enthusiasm amongst students for science, technology, engineering and mathematics. In a meeting with parents of the visiting students, Dr. Eng. Mohammed Nasser Al Ahbabi, Director General of the UAE Space Agency, explained how the Hamilton Space School program has the potential to shape children’s future careers and provide them with practical scientific expertise and expand their knowledge of the space sector and the sciences.

As part of the six-day program, students also visited UniSA, touring the Institute for Telecommunications Research and holodeck, and participating in an evening at the planetarium. The students were accompanied during the week by two representatives from the UAE Space Agency and the head of science and innovation at Al Khaleej National School, Dubai.
